In 2018, the historic Camp Fire destroyed the town Paradise and killed 85 people. This film is set 50 years in the future and reflects on the rebuilding process in Paradise. The film is a blueprint for communities around the world who are facing disastrous conditions and seek to create a better world.
We’ve invited 3 Portlanders to judge our finalists on the films’ overall quality, and relevance to the ‘Solar Punk’ theme. They will unanimously discuss and decide on a grand prize winner and a runner up.
Olivia Phoenix
Olivia is an international, multi-talented artist and designer with a BA in Visual Communication Design and a Master of Fine Arts in Collaborative Design. With her fascination for effective communication and systems design, her work spans many disciplines and mediums. She is passionate about telling powerful stories and imagining a better future together.
Wes Griffin
Wes is Executive Director at B Local PDX, creating opportunities for businesses that prioritize people and planet. A science kid in the Bible Belt, he later lured his pre-med pals to doc studies classes. He led Habitat for Humanity ReStores in Louisiana and Mississippi – an experiment in circularity hiding in plain, unobjectionable sight. He remains a benevolent contrarian to this day.
Summer Luu
a hopeful, solution-driven outlook on environmental and societal futures. A genre that envisions what is possible in a future that centers the interdependence of technology and nature.
