FLARE
The Project
We were asked by the Laboratory for Leveraging Evidence and Advancing Practice for Youth Mental Health Services (LEAP Lab) at the University of Oregon’s Ballmer Institute for Children’s Behavioral Health to work on an education series in coordination with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) for their mental health literacy program: Flexible Learning for Adolescent Resiliency Education (FLARE). This was to be a series of training videos with a primary audience of middle school educators (e.g., teachers, counselors, administrative staff) who will implement the program. These videos will be available as a part of FLARE program materials for middle schools around the U.S. and will allow educators to customize their curriculum from the series.
Our Approach
We coordinated the location with another longtime client of ours, the French International School of Oregon, who readily agreed as they were already in good partnership with NAMI. We hired a spokesperson and a series of child actors to be in example scenario videos. We coordinated some animated assets from a provided script and planned out our shot lists and schedule to carefully be able to produce 30 videos in 3 days. We edited together the full series and were able to complete this within the intended timeline.
